Foam cushions should be wrapped or covered to protect the foam from direct contact with the upholstery fabric. I have a couple of cushions, but they basically get in the way of people sitting on the sofa, comfortably. In some pics, there are so many cushions, one would have to perch on the tiny front edge to actually sit?!? This is one of my favorite versions of Emily’s LA living room because I just love how this sofa looks in her English Tudor home. It’s so simple and classic which allows for more modern pillow and throw options. Buying a sofa that you can use both inside and outside works great for high-traffic spaces and convertible indoor-outdoor spaces.
Make sure the sofa base sits level and then leave to dry. To attach them, I made a 4 holes in the bottom of the sofa base. To make the hole I used an awl first (making very sure I didn’t go all the way through the foam board), and then the thinner end of my scissors to make the hole big enough for the legs. Once dry, cut 2 slits in each side of the excess fabric. This will create flaps which you should then shorten to a manageable size.

The least expensive (and least durable) options don’t have springs and only use webbing or mesh. Avoid these couches if your goal is a quality piece of furniture. If you’re buying a recliner sofa, make sure it is comfortable in all its positions. The couch back should support your back adequately with your feet flat on the floor and the backs of your knees just slightly forward of the lower seat cushion. And if you like to nap on the couch, lay down on the couch and see if it is long enough for comfortable snoozing.
Use circular motions and make sure you get every nook, cranny and crease of the couch. Even if you removed the pretty styling, the sofa rug and pillows are still way ahead of the look we would have with everything matching the sofa. And don’t forget about pattern in your drapes or rug, that’s always a great way to add interest. Without a professional designer involved, it will be hard to achieve the expertly styled room anytime soon.
But that was okay, because my tastes have changed since 2018, and I was really looking more for a chaise-style sofa. I first started my Ashley Furniture-based search online, but I did, ultimately, go into the store in Emeryville, California.

If it is a couch in excellent shape but you need to make room for one of our Hollywood sectional sofas, consider setting up a den, playroom, or lounge for relocation. Both are performance fabrics meant to withstand active family life. There is no reason to Scotchguard or protect your beautiful sofa when you first get it even though you’ll be tempted to – trust that the performance fabric will do its’ job.
